Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the Sunnyside Public School Community! As a School Council, we are very excited for the upcoming school year. We believe it takes a community to build a school that is spirited and full of life, and we cannot rely only on the school staff and Principal to make it work. We have several parents and volunteers who give their time to the school and we can always use more help.
As a school council member, you can help your council discover new and exciting ways to contribute to the education of students in your school. Your participation can make a difference!
The School Council works with the school in many ways:
- Making recommendations to the Principal and School Board on any matter.
- Contributes to the effectiveness of the educational program
- Fosters cooperation and understanding between families and staff
- Development of fundraising initiatives
- Work with Sunnyside and other schools to exchange ideas and experiences.
Studies have shown that parental involvement is one of the most significant factors contributing to a child’s success in school. When parents are involved in their children’s education, the level of student achievement increases. Whether you would like to join the council as a voting member or would just like to come out and observe, you are welcome to do so. Please know that there is always an open invitation to join any of our meetings.
